RESILIENCE RELAY FEATURED ATHLETE: MIKE
Achilles Resilience Relay 2021
MIKE SPROUSE
United States Marine Sgt. And Drill Instructor (Retired) Mike Sprouse. Mike did his first marathon with the AFT, the Marine Corps Marathon, and his life changed forever. “Achilles has played a major role in my life since my injury. I met my wife though Achilles in 2007, and friends I consider to be family. They have always played a major role in my life on and off the handcycle.” When mention of an Achilles Relay came up, Mike was the first person to say, ‘Sign me up and let me know how I can help!’ In addition to being a beloved athlete, Mike also volunteers with Achilles and has been an integral piece of the ARR planning. During the pandemic, Mike stayed motivated and engaged by participating in the Achilles Freedom Team-Team Achilles Kids (AFT-TAK) Virtual Training Camp among other activities.
Mike races in memory of his Dad, who volunteered for a second tour in Vietnam where he sadly lost his life. Mike’s Dad is also why he became a Drill Instructor. His Dad was also one in San Diego, CA.
We are forever grateful to have Mike and his wife Peggy (also an Achilles rock star!) in the Achilles community.
