RESILIENCE RELAY FEATURED ATHLETE: JENNY
Achilles Resilience Relay 2021
JENNY HWANG (Achilles Queens)
Jenny Hwang lives in Queens, NY and when she’s not fielding calls as a customer service rep, she’s out running with all three Achilles NYC Chapters -- Brooklyn, Central Park and her home borough of Queens. Professionally, she’s known as Jenny. But the NYC running community knows her as a different name -- The Daredevil. Much like the superhero that refused to let a loss of vision become a hindrance, Jenny is no different. She was born with Retinitis pigmentosa and has been visually impaired her whole life. The condition worsened in 2002 and she lost most of her sight. In 2013 she discovered Achilles decided to give running a shot. She gained confidence and eventually built up the nerve to try her first marathon. Several more followed and she found herself crossing marathon finish lines all over the U.S. Through running, Jenny has found that she is able to build self esteem and form new friendships. In 2018, she took on her biggest challenge and ran the Paris Marathon. She’s a Daredevil in every sense of the word and a true hero to the running community. Jenny will proudly take the baton in Queens on July 9th with the help of her beloved chapter.
