Position Title: Director, Race Operations and Execution

Position Purpose:
For many members of the Achilles community, participating in a major marathon represents the pinnacle of their athletic journey. These events are transformative, offering athletes life-changing opportunities to achieve personal milestones while also inspiring broader awareness and appreciation for inclusion. The Director, Race Operations and Execution will serve as the primary coordinator for Achilles’ participation in marquee races across the globe. This individual will be responsible for the seamless planning, organization, and execution of the Marathon Tour and other major events that highlight Achilles’ mission and values. This position is based in New York City with a requirement of three days in-office during non-travel periods.
Events on the 2025 Achilles Marathon Tour include and are not limited to: Walt Disney World Marathon, Houston Marathon, Los Angeles Marathon, Boston Marathon, the Achilles Relay, Berlin Marathon, London Marathon, Chicago Marathon, Detroit Marathon, Marine Corps Marathon and the New York City Marathon. This position acts as project manager for all of the above.
Within the New York area, the Director, Race Operations and Execution, is responsible for organizing and executing the Achilles Hope & Possibility ® 4M Presented by TD Bank. The Director, Race Operations and Execution, will report to the VP, Program Delivery and Operations.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities of Position:
Plan, coordinate and execute Achilles’ presence at events related to the Marathon Tour and collaborate with AWD counterparts at race management organizations, including New York Road Runners (NYRR), Boston Athletic Association (BAA), and Chicago Event Management (CEM).
Travel to all races on the Achilles Marathon Tour, acting as the group lead and shepherding all staff, athletes, and volunteers.
Work closely with the VP, Strategic Partnerships on stewardship of the Achilles Freedom Team (military veterans with disabilities) specific and other key corporate partnerships.
Oversee all logistics for race participation, including athlete registration, athlete/guide pairing, travel arrangements, accommodations, meals and on-site support.
Collaborate with the Achilles Communications and Development teams to promote events, secure sponsorships, and amplify the achievements of Achilles athletes.
Develop and manage event budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources while meeting financial and operational goals.
Recruit, train, and lead staff and volunteers for events, fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and excellence.
Evaluate events post-completion, gathering feedback from athletes, guides, and stakeholders to inform future planning and improvements.

Key Qualifications:
Proven experience in event management, logistics, or a related field, preferably within sports or nonprofit organizations.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Passion for inclusivity and a commitment to the mission of Achilles International.
Experience working with adaptive sports and equipment, or individuals with disabilities, is a plus.
Flexibility to travel frequently and work nontraditional hours, including weekends, as required for events.

Position Title: Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia (“DMV”) Chapter Lead
Job Holder: Open
Position Purpose:
Each Achilles Chapter is led by a Chapter Lead, responsible for delivering high-quality workouts for children, adults, veterans (Freedom Team) with disabilities, and handcyclists while overseeing the overall operations of the Chapter. The Chapter Lead manages all key functions—including development, recruitment, communications, and events — with support and guidelines from HQ. They also administer Achilles programs across diverse athlete groups, all with the shared goal of transforming the lives of individuals with disabilities. This position will oversee the entire DMV Chapter, coordinating all members, programs, and functions. The Chapter Lead will report directly to the VP of US Programming. This is a remote position. The candidate must reside in one of the designated markets.
Major Responsibilities:
Chapter Operations: Oversee all operations for the Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and future Northern Virginia locations, ensuring smooth execution of weekly workouts and community events. Attend at least three workouts per week and commute to all workout locations.
Athlete and Volunteer Engagement: Recruit, onboard, and support athletes and volunteers, fostering an inclusive, supportive environment. Cultivate and retain highly engaged and committed volunteers, ensuring proper training for guiding athletes of all ages and abilities.
Community Growth: Launch a new workout location in Northern Virginia to expand the chapter's reach and impact.
Fundraising and Partnerships: Develop and implement strategies to secure financial support from individuals through donor cultivation, engagement, solicitation, and fundraising events. Secure corporate, foundation, and government support through grants and partnerships. Contribute to management of existing corporate, foundation, and government partnerships to support chapter operations and growth.
Event and Race Coordination: Organize local race participation for Achilles members, support management of logistics for the Marine Corps Marathon, and ensure seamless athlete and volunteer experiences.
Administration: Manage chapter finances within budget, track revenue and expenses, oversee member registration, track attendance, and ensure timely community communications. Maintain appropriate liability and compliance protocols.
Operations Management: Oversee ordering of supplies (e.g., apparel) and manage any part-time employees assisting with chapter operations.

Position Title: Event Manager, Achilles International-Connecticut

Position Purpose:
The Event Manager, Achilles International - Connecticut, will be responsible for overseeing logistics for races, workouts, and social events for the Connecticut Chapter. Achilles International is a leading adaptive running nonprofit that transforms the lives of youth, adults and veterans with disabilities through athletic programs and social connection.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities of Position:
Oversee and collaborate with workout coordinators regarding group workout locations and schedules throughout the year (both indoor and outdoor).
Create, maintain and monitor the Chapter’s group workout planning sheets/rosters.
Oversee training of workout captains in collaboration with coordinators.
Serve as the administrator for Achilles Connecticut Chapter races throughout the year, including the creation of the annual calendar.
Serve as the point of contact for race directors, ensuring course safety and accommodations as needed for athletes with disabilities.
Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to develop and implement registration processes/deadlines for athletes and their guides.
Oversee race day logistics for all participants and provide on-site race day support.
Assist with logistics for out of state/international races for Connecticut athletes.
Assist in planning quarterly Chapter social events to build community.
Work Relations:
Reports to the Connecticut Chapter Director
Manages workout coordinators and race day volunteers
Collaborates with the Connecticut Chapter’s Program Coordinator, Program Assistant, and Executive & Leadership Teams
Key Competencies:
Event management and supervisory experience preferred.

Organized and aware of relevant deadlines, etc.
Detail oriented, ensuring all participants are trained properly for races and athlete/volunteer data is well managed using Rosterfy (training provided).
Strong public speaking skills and communication skills (verbal, written).
Knowledge of all Achilles programs and inner workings of Connecticut Chapter operations.
Valid driver’s license.
Hybrid part time position with office in Guilford, CT. Payrate at $25/hour for 20 hours per week. Weekends as required.
