Achilles Boston Athletes Race TD Beach to Beacon 10K For First Time
Achilles Boston athletes took to the streets of Cape Elizabeth, ME on August 5 to compete in the TD Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race for the first time. Thanks to support from TD Bank, four chapter athletes and their guides participated, including:
Nathaniel Shanks, a veteran and an avid 5K runner living with a traumatic brain injury.
Justin O'Connell, a marathoner and half marathoner who was born with scoliosis.
Tina Caruso, a photographer and runner living with functional blindness who has been passionate about the sport since she ran cross country in college.
Lina Coral, a future therapist living with low vision who hopes to open an animal rescue center one day.
“Achilles had such a great day at the event,” said Joe LeMar, Chapter Lead of Achilles Boston. “Our athletes and guides did an excellent job and had a great time. It was an amazing day on a packed course with crowds lining the entire 6.2 miles!”
The team even got to meet elite pros Deena Kastor and Catherine Ndereba.
This year’s race had the largest field of racing wheelchair athletes in its history.
"Supporting inclusion within the communities where we live and work is a core component of who we are at TD," said Tyrrell Schmidt, Chief Marketing Officer, TD Bank and Achilles Board Member to Mainebiz. "I'm so proud to see athletes of all abilities participating in the most diverse and inclusive race in the 25 years of the TD Beach to Beacon. I very much look forward to having athletes from Achilles International, an organization near and dear to my heart, participate in this year's race."
Thank you TD Bank for your continued support of Achilles.
