CHARITY RUNNER FAQ
TEAM ACHILLES CHARITY RUNNER FAQ
Thank you for fundraising for Achilles International! We are thrilled to welcome you to our Team Achilles TCS New York City Marathon charity team. Below are frequently asked questions.
-
No, Achilles does not provide a bus to the NYC Marathon start line. New York Road Runners (NYRR) provides buses for all race participants with disabilities and for their approved guides and only they can access the bus. If you would like to ride to the start with other Achilles supporters, you can connect with your fellow charity runners via the Facebook group here or Strava group here or by phone or email to explore carpool and rideshare options.
-
Achilles does not provide a tent in the starting village. The Athletes with Disabilities team at NYRR provides shelter for AWDs and their guides, however, only AWDs and their approved guides are permitted to enter this space.
-
We love our guides! In most cases, Achilles athletes select the runners that they would like to train with and guide them on race day. If you are interested in becoming a guide, please visit our website to see if there is a chapter close to you. By attending a chapter workout, you’ll have the chance to connect with Achilles athletes – including some who may be seeking a guide for an upcoming race or marathon. If you have not done so already, please be sure to fill out a volunteer form and a chapter director will reach out to schedule a guide training.
-
NYRR does typically allow AWDs to select up two guides to support them at the NYC Marathon. A registered charity runner is eligible to be selected as one of the two guides supporting an AWD, however a registered charity runner may not be selected as an additional or third guide for the NYC Marathon.
