Hector Ramirez graduated in 1991 From Hunter College CUNY with a BA in Elementary Education and Psychology. He taught elementary school for five years, and was a salesman in the foodservice industry for 25 years.
Hector has been passionate about sports and athletics his entire life. When he was in his early 40’s he decided he was going to become an Ironman and long-distance athlete. It was through these pursuits that he first became aware of Achilles International. “I would be on these grueling courses and I would see an athlete and guide in these neon yellow shirts and just be in awe of them,” Hector says.
After his daughter went away to college, he decided that it was the right time to volunteer with Achilles in his free time. He did it for six years. In 2022, he left the business world to dedicate himself to helping people full time. He was working as a substitute teacher when a position at Achilles International became available and he just couldn’t pass up this opportunity.
“I love what I do. I get to help and support people live a healthy life style and achieve goals that tells them “Yes you can!” I get to witness incredible human beings persevere. They teach me that anything is possible as long as you don’t give up,” Hector says.
