Achilles Kids in NYC Run Annual Terry Fox 5K for Cancer Research
Members of Team Achilles Kids participated in the Terry Fox Run for Cancer Research 5K on Saturday, October 8 in Central Park. Achilles participation in the race has been an annual tradition for over 25 years.
With 17 kids and 19 volunteer guides in attendance, this was Team Achilles Kids’ largest turnout at a race since before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The mission of the Terry Fox Foundation is one that has always remained close to Achilles’ heart. Terry Fox was a Canadian athlete and humanitarian. After his leg was amputated after complications from cancer, Terry was inspired by Achilles International founder Dick Traum, who was the first person to complete the NYC Marathon running on a prosthetic. To raise awareness and funds for cancer research, Terry ran a marathon a day across Canada.
Team Achilles Kids will continue to participate in races every month for the remainder of this year, including their annual Halloween and Holiday fun runs.
