Achilles Athletes Win Handcycle Division at 2025 Boston Marathon
Over 73 members of the Achilles community completed the 2025 Bank of America Boston Marathon on April 21, including several who placed at the top of their division. For some, it was their first time on the iconic course; for others, a familiar challenge and a podium finish.
Alfredo Delossantos, Achilles Freedom Team, and Jo Ann Outten-Kenton, Achilles Washington, D.C., who finished first place in the men’s and women’s handcycle divisions, were recognized by the Boston Athletic Association in a special finish line ceremony. Achilles also congratulates Kelly Bruno, Achilles Connecticut, Ary Dias (Ary Carlos Santos), Achilles Brazil and Adam Popp, Achilles Freedom Team, who came out on top or placed in the top three in their respective divisions as well.
The weekend began with a team dinner thanks to support from Bank of America. On Saturday, Achilles Boston hosted a shakeout run to welcome their Achilles teammates from out of town. The highlight? A surprise visit from ultramarathon legend Scott Jurek, who shared words of encouragement and helped energize the team for race day.
Later that afternoon, the Black Unicorn Marathoners — a group committed to uplifting BIPOC runners in the Boston Marathon — celebrated their 2025 Pioneers Team during the 11th Annual Celebrate & Connect event at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center. Among those honored were Achilles Freedom Team athlete Joseph Martin, and retired Master Sergeant Cedric King, Achilles Freedom Team athlete and Board Member.
On Sunday, Achilles athletes enjoyed a Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park with an unforgettable pregame ceremony honoring the military veterans of the Achilles Freedom Team. Cesar Jimenez and Carl Morgan threw out the first pitch.
Members of Achilles NYC led by Francesco Magisano who were not participating in the official marathon, teamed up with HOKA in the Paul Revere Classic relay before race day.
Patriots’ Day began bright and early with near-perfect weather and high spirits. Achilles athletes were supported on the course by a team of dedicated volunteer guides, including HOKA pro Hellah Sidibe, who ran with Achilles New Jersey athlete Rolando Lee, and pro marathoner Mike Wardian, who guided Achilles Los Angeles athlete Dylan Bourne.
This marks Achilles’ second year as an official member of the Bank of America Boston Marathon Charity Program. Thanks to our Team Achilles charity runners, we’ve raised over $71,000 to transform the lives of youth, adults and military veterans with disabilities.
Achilles thanks the GM Military Appreciation Program, HOKA, and Bank of America for making the Boston Marathon weekend truly memorable for our athletes.
